Dr. Zhang is an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota. He is in the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences and a faculty member of the Center for Neurobehavioral Development. He earned his Ph.D. in Speech & Hearing Sciences from the University of Washington; he also holds a B.S. in English for Science and Technology from Shanghai Jiaotong University in China and an M.A. in linguistics from the University of Iowa. Before coming to the United States, he was an assistant professor of English at Shanghai Jiaotong University. At I-LABS, he worked with Dr. Patricia K. Kuhl and Dr. Toshiaki Imada on speech and language representation in the brain. Dr. Zhang's research interests include speech perception and production, language acquisition, speech analysis and synthesis, psycholinguistics, and computational linguistics. Using behavioral and neuroimaging methods, he studies brain plasticity in phonetic training and the effect of language experience on speech perception.
