I-LABS is one of the only research institutes in the nation to have a team dedicated to public engagement. Through their community collaborations, the outreach team connects science with practice.
This work continues to gain national attention. In 2019, Outreach Specialist Amelia Bachleda was awarded a yearlong ARIS fellowship. The Center for Advancing Research Impact in Society works to strengthen public engagement. ARIS fellows conduct research and develop products to further the impact of research.
As a fellow, Bachleda developed a new framework. This new tool helps researchers build public engagement plans. It emphasizes the importance of partnerships in project development. Designed as a flow-chart, it provides space to outline goals, consider logistics, and build a logic model.
