A new module on children’s causal learning was developed by former I-LABS postdoctoral research associate, Anna Waismeyer. In "Learning to Make Things Happen: How Children Learn Cause-and-Effect," Dr. Waismeyer discusses how learning to use cause-and-effect is a critical part of a child’s cognitive development. The module also includes information on how to support children as they learn about cause-and-effect relations in their world.
“This module offers a glimpse into an important cognitive ability that develops early in life,” said Sarah Lytle, Director of Outreach and Education. “The skills covered in this module are critically important for children’s ability to learn about the world around them and this module provides useful tips for adults hoping to foster children’s understanding of cause-and-effect.”
This new resource is the 18th training module in the I-LABS library of free, online modules on child development topics. Each 20- to 25-minute module is designed to equip parents, early learning professionals, and other caregivers with practical ways to use the latest science in their interactions with children. Discussion guides accompany each module to support the use of these resources in professional development settings.
