In the "People of I-LABS" series, we get to know the research scientists, post-doctoral fellows and other researchers who make up the elite team at I-LABS.
Please tell us a little about yourself. Where do you come from? What are you doing at I-LABS?
I was born on the beautiful island of Taiwan. After joining a high school study abroad program in Seattle, I fell in love with this vibrant city and decided to move here to complete college education and further pursue my career.
I am currently working as the Administrator in the Business Office at I-LABS.
How did you get involved in your specialty?
I studied Accounting & Information Systems in college and have been working as a finance/budget professional throughout my career years. I enjoy working with numbers and data and turning them into meaningful information. Currently, I am pursuing a MS degree in Research Administration, which will help strengthening my skillsets and knowledge to all aspects of grants, contracts, budgets and finance.
What are you responsibilities here?
Working with Riki and Jay, I monitor 80+ institute-wide budgets; perform funding analysis and projections for the unit as well as assisting all aspects of financial operations within I-LABS.
What's your favorite part of working at I-LABS?
Working with an excellent, knowledgeable and professional team of researchers and colleagues. Moreover, who could resist the adorable sound of babies and toddlers next door at the family reception room?
How do you use I-LABS discoveries in your own life?
I-LABS research and discoveries give me a new perspective of how truly fascinating the human brains are. As I am a trilingual person that constantly communicates in multiple languages, it makes me appreciate our ability for learning and exercising the brain.
What's something we might not know about you? (Something fun! Secret talents? Cool travels? Adorable pets?)
I participated in classical/opera singing for over 10 years since I was 11 years old. Now I sing in the shower.
