People of I-LABS
Vibrant, super-smart and caring: these are just a few of the qualities that describe the dozens of interdisciplinary researchers at I-LABS. Their innovative ideas and technological savviness help drive the Institute's reputation as a world leader in child development and brain science.
And their kindness, professionalism and sense of humor greet all of the hundreds of families that volunteer each year for studies at I-LABS.
In the "People of I-LABS" series, we get to know the research scientists, post-doctoral fellows and other researchers who make up the elite team at I-LABS.
Please tell us a little about yourself. Where do you come from? What are you doing at I-LABS?
I grew up in San Diego, went to college in Baltimore, and then moved to Seattle!
How did you get involved in your specialty?
I initially started working at I-LABS because of my experience working with infants and children. My love for babies has always been a part of who I am. I was hired in 2011 to be the first MEG toy waver at I-LABS because the team was looking for someone who could keep the babies happy and entertained!
What are your responsibilities here?
My responsibilities at I-LABS has changed over time. I began as a Research Assistant, working with the parents and infants in our studies. Then I became a Research Coordinator and I was able to really develop my organizational skills. Most recently, I have taken on the role as Dr. Kuhl’s lab manager. With this new position, I’ve really been enjoying managing so many different moving parts of our numerous studies and working with all the staff members on the team.
What are you working on now?
Lots of studies!
What's your favorite part of working at I-LABS?
I love that my job is never boring. There’s always something new to learn and new projects to work on. I also love that I-LABS is such a collaborative team-oriented environment.
What is your most exciting I-LABS memory?
I love participating as a subject in our studies!
What’s something we might not know about you? (something fun! Secret talents? Cool travels? Adorable pets?)
I love doing DIY home renovation projects. I am always looking for new crafts to try and I especially like learning how to use power tools. I am currently working on remodeling our bathroom and I had to figure out how to install a new sink!
