In an article for TIME, Allison Master, an I-LABS postdoctoral researcher, writes about her research showing how dispelling computer science stereotypes could help narrow the gender gap in computer science by helping girls feel that they belong.
Master's latest study, co-authored by Andrew Meltzoff, co-director of I-LABS, revealed that three times as many high school girls were interested in enrolling in a computer science class if the classroom was redesigned to be less “geeky” and more inviting.
"The effects are real," Master writes in TIME. "But there are ways to counter them."
